Trip to ESA

This time, the soil mineralogy and soil chemistry working group excursion took us to the stars

Every semester, the students and staff of the Soil Mineralogy and Soil Chemistry Research Group take a break from the office and the lab for a day outdoors. This allows them to stretch their legs, recharge, and explore fascinating topics beyond their usual research.

This time, The adventure began with an enjoyable hike through the forest from the institute to Ludwigshöhe, followed by a hearty lunch. But the highlight of the day was a visit to the European Space Agency (ESA)! There, the group learned about the various types of satellites orbiting our planet and discovered some of the challenges of space debris management. They even got a behind-the-scenes look at the operations control room for ESA’s launches and discovered interesting facts about the agency’s missions. It was a day full of discovery (space, stars, asteroids, kaiserschmarrn, …) and inspiration for everyone!
