Assessment of salt concentrations from de-icing salts on roadside soils in Switzerland

Description: This project investigates the spatial distribution of de-icing salts in roadside soils in Switzerland, comparing two contrasting road types – Autobahn (motorways) and Kategorie 4 (rural roads). Using electrical conductivity measurements and ion chromatography, the study assesses how road type and distance from the road edge (1–10 m) influence salt concentration and ionic composition in soils, contributing to a better understanding of de-icing salt impacts on roadside environments.
