Microplastics in forest soils

The objective of my thesis is to investigate the presence of microplastic pollution in deciduous forest soils in Germany. To accomplish this goal, established methodologies are tested and implemented to effectively extract and analyze microplastics from forest soils. The high concentration of organic material with varying degrees of decomposition within forest soils presents a significant challenge for microplastic extraction, as the existing methods struggle to effectively capture microplastics in such conditions. Therefore, novel approaches must be developed to address the difficulties associated with microplastic extraction from forest soils.
