3D modeling of land subsidence

The intensive extraction of groundwater leads to a lowering of the groundwater level. Subsidence can occur due to the processes triggered in the soil as a result. Studies of land subsidence require principally numerical models based on the poroelastic theory first proposed by Biot (1941). In a review of regional subsidence caused by groundwater withdrawal, Gallowy and Burbay (2011) call for further research and application of coupled stress-dependent land subsidence processes. In this project, we follow this suggestion.
