Project start IsoMulch
The aim of the project is to investigate biodegradable mulch films and the effects of released carbon

The ‘IsoMulch’ project, funded by the RMU Initiative Fund for Research, starts in cooperation between the Department of Soil Mineralogy and Soil Chemistry (IAG) and the Soil Geography and Ecosystem Research Group (Goethe University Frankfurt).

The aim of the project is to investigate the degradation of biodegradable mulch films in soils and the effects of released carbon (C) on plant growth and nutrient cycles in soils. New methodological approaches based on natural 13C isotope signals in the mulch film and the experimental soil used will be applied to distinguish natural carbon in the soil from carbon released by biodegradable films in order to analyse the decomposition of biodegradable mulch films.
