Research topics

The research group Geothermal Science and Technology conducts basic research projects and is involved in the expert and scientific assessment or consulting of shallow and deep geothermal projects. Current topics of our research are:

  • Direct and indirect utilization of geothermal energy for heating, cooling and thermal storage purposes
  • Integration of geothermal systems into networks of other (renewable) energy systems
  • Measurement instrumentation in the field of geothermal energy
  • Development and optimization of materials for geothermal and line construction applications
  • Thermal and hydraulic optimization of buried cable routs
  • Coupled numerical modeling of heat and mass transport
  • Potential- and feasibility studies
  • Development of planning and completion parameters and methods for geothermal projects
