GEMOda

Geoscientific Measuring Station on the Edge of the Darmstadtium

The Science and Congress Centre is built on historical ground with traces of Darmstadt's urban history. Beyond that, however, the deeper underground is also of great geological interest. One of the most important geological structures in Central Europe is located directly beneath the building: the main eastern boundary fault of the Upper Rhine Graben, which is part of a fracture system that is located across the whole of Europe. This provides unique access to data on the associated tectonic and seismic activity here in the darmstadtium.

There are only a few places in Europe where such faults are directly accessible – darmstadtium is one of them!
