The aim of the AMPEDEK project is to create a comprehensive reference database for the characterization of crystalline host rocks in Germany. Suitable data sets on mineralogical, geochemical, petrophysical and rock mechanical rock properties of predominantly magmatic and metamorphic rocks of the crystalline basement in Germany will be obtained through literature research and new sampling and measurement campaigns and compiled in a database. This should serve as a basis for decisions on the selection of suitable sites (in particular for the definition of the siting regions in Phase 1 Step 2) for the final disposal of highly radioactive waste. The work of the project is divided into three work packages: 1) determination of the current state of knowledge, 2) analysis of existing and new samples and 3) creation of a reference database. The data sets to be recorded and the planned sampling and measurement campaigns are limited exclusively to crystalline host rocks, e.g. granites, granodiorites, diorites, gabbros, ortho- and paragneisses, amphibolites and granulites. In addition, the sample material should come either from archived drill cores in drill core repositories, quarries or representative outcrops within Germany or from rock formations that occur outside Germany but are representative of the rock formation within Germany (within 100 km of the political federal border).
