Scholarships – Application Process

The TU Darmstadt does not issue scholarships. If you need a scholarship, you need to apply for one before you apply for enrollment in the TropHEE programme, for instance at the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service, s. below). Please keep in mind that the application procedure for scholarships usually takes several months.

DAAD Scholarship

TropHEE is part of the DAAD scholarship programme for postgraduate courses with relevance to developing and transforming countries (EPOS). The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers a limited number of scholarships to highly qualified applicants. The current call for applications and necessary application documents for the scholarship for an EPOS study program can be found on the DAAD's website:

Winter term 2024/2025 - Application deadline

If you plan to start the TropHEE program in the winter semester 2024/2025 and would like to apply for a DAAD scholarship, the application must be received by December 15, 2023 at the latest.

Prerequisites for a DAAD scholarship:

(1) B.Sc. certificate above average and not older than 6 years

(2) the applicant has not completed a master degree so far

(3) minimum of 2 years professional experience, primarily in the field of water and preferably outside the university

(4) the applicant intends to return to her/his home country after his studies where she/he ideally has a guaranteed job position

Required documents:

  • All documents noted on the checklist
  • proof of English language skills: IELTS or TOEFL (institutional TOEFL is not accepted)

Selection process: the final decision on the allocation of scholarships is made by the DAAD. The selection process at all postgraduate courses supported by the DAAD will last from October until February.

Scholarships at TU Darmstadt for enrolled TropHEE students:

  • Deutschlandstipendium for freshmen or 2nd semester students (application period: starts every year in September)

Country-specific funding:

  • COLFUTURO scholarship for students from Columbia
  • GNPC foundation scholarship of the Ghana National Petroleum Cooperation

Further scholarships:
