Head: Dr. Jens Hornung
Time and location: The event takes place annually.
Application: Entry in the list on the notice board on the ground floor and registration via the TUCaN portal.
Summary:
The sedimentological internship provides you with the necessary knowledge and skills that you will constantly need for your final thesis and in your later job as a geologist (m / f / d) for practical field work and its expert preparation:
- Creation of sedimentological profiles in carbonates and clastics in boreholes and in the outcrop.
- Collection of measurement data sets along these profiles and use of the following measuring devices: Spectral gamma ray for measuring natural radioactivity, Kappameter for measuring magnetic susceptibility, portable XRF device for determining the element spectrum of substrates.
- Sampling with a core drilling machine and measurement of the plugs obtained in the laboratory for porosity and gas permeability.
- Lithofacies analysis of carbonates and clastics.
- Architectural element analysis of carbonates and clastics.
- Recognizing cyclicality in the sedimentary report.
The aim is to create high-quality, “publication-ready” images and tables of the results you have achieved. In addition, you will learn and practice soft skills that will be daily practice in your later job. This includes:
- the use of vector-oriented drawing programs (Corel Draw, Illustrator, Inkscape, etc.) and spreadsheets (Excel, Libre Office, etc.).
- Standardize different working styles and the preparation of heterogeneous data sets of your team colleagues.
Food and Beverage: Various overnight stay, half board
Number of participants: Variable
Proof of achievement: Exam/report
