Underwater georadar

The "Hügelis", underwater monuments in the form of chains of hills on the Swiss shores of Lake Constance, have received immense media coverage in recent years. The development of the underwater georadar of the AG Sedimentology played a large part in this. Because of the high-resolution structural exploration, it could be clearly demonstrated that this monumental structure was piled up by human hands around 3500 years before Christ.

Graves and depot search using geophysical sensors

As part of a research project, the Federal Criminal Police Office of Germany is investigating the application of selected geophysical methods for forensic issues. The focus is on the detection and classification of near-surface excavations and buried objects (subsurface deposits). ). Carbon balance of European lakes

The expanded quantification of global carbon (C) storage in and release from lakes is intended to close the knowledge gap about the role of terrestrial systems for the global C cycle. The previously unknown sink in the global C-cycle and Europe's share in it are to be narrowed down further. For this purpose, new morphological, hydrophysical and -chemical data, especially about smaller lakes and artificial reservoirs, are to be evaluated on a European and later on a global scale.
